The first-ever Korean Literary Fest Dhaka 2026 in Bangladesh will be held in Uttara, Dhaka on 22 December to introduce contemporary Korean literature and poetry to young Bangladeshi readers.
Renowned Korean fiction writer Son Bo-mi and poet and dynamic artist Jung Hyunwoo will attend the festival and interact directly with readers. The daylong event, organized by the SIMEC Foundation in Uttara, will also bring together Bangladeshi and Korean literary critics, scholars and researchers. Supported by the Literature Translation Institute of Korea (LTI Korea), the festival aims to build stronger connections between Bangladeshi literature lovers and contemporary Korean literature while opening new avenues for the study of Asian literature.
Special guest Son Bomi made her literary debut in 2009 and currently teaches creative writing at Kyung Hee University. Her fiction is known for presenting deeply emotional subjects through restrained, calm and understated prose. Her notable works include Downpour, A Love of Scientist, Stroll, Lindy Hop for Them, Hot Air Balloon and Swell. Her writing often explores human emotions through layered narratives, interconnected characters and carefully constructed gaps in the storyline.
Poet and multidisciplinary artist Jung Hyunwoo will also join the festival. Alongside poetry, he works as a singer-songwriter, radio storyteller and writer. His notable books include I Learned to Speak from Angels, Black Miracle, Perishing Night and We Love Without Promises. His poetry explores grief, memory, love and the experience of living through loss. His work across poetry, music and audio storytelling has established him as a distinctive voice in contemporary Korean arts.
The festival will also feature Dr. Ahn Soongbeum, Professor of Korean Language and Literature at Kyung Hee University, Dean of the Institute of International Education and Director of the K-Culture and Story Contents Research Institute. Professor Ahn is also known as a film critic and poet. He has conducted extensive research on the Korean Wave, cultural content and storytelling.
