On 15 June 2025, Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu hosted a one-day workshop on Visual Sociology and Ethnography, co-led by Dr. Ratan Kumar Roy, Director of the SIMEC Research Center, and Professor Sara Parker from Liverpool John Moores University, UK. The event brought together a diverse group of scholars, researchers, and practitioners from across South Asia to examine evolving methods and ethical challenges in visual research.

Dr. Ratan Kumar Roy delivered a presentation titled “Visual Research in the Age of Digital: Ethical Issues and Concerns,” which sparked thoughtful discussions on consent, representation, and data responsibility in the rapidly evolving digital research environment.

The workshop concluded with two major outcomes: the establishment of a Nepal-based network affiliated with the International Visual Sociology Association (IVSA) and the formal adoption of the Kathmandu Declaration for Visual Researchers.
